Every January the STRA holds their annual meeting and banquet normally close to the club’s center of operation which is Chattanooga Tennessee. We make any rule changes that are deemed necessary as well as set the schedule for the upcoming year and then reconvene to eat dinner and pass out the championship trophies. Our attendance at events was up in 2012 and that is a good thing for our sport and we go into 2013 with a schedule of 14 events spread out from March to November. The STRA is also the proud hosts of the U.S. round of the world championship which brings the top riders back to America for the first time since 2008. If you are able to attend it will be Memorial Day weekend at the Trials Training Center. Details and directions as well as contacts for the world round as well as our club events can be found at our website which is setrialsriders.org and you can call me at 770-788-0937 any time. 2013 will mark the STRA’s 40th anniversary which is an indication of what a great time we all have riding trials together and we welcome any and all to come join the fun at our events.
Our 2012 champions came from four different states and range in age from teens to well into their fifties. Our Champ rider is Chuck Walker from Florida and this is the second time Chuck’s name will be added to the big Champ trophy. Our Expert champ is Aaron Thistle from Georgia and he is still young at seventeen and has the potential to be added to the big trophy very soon. Both Aaron and Chuck ride the new Sherco. In the Advanced class it is Tim Cone from Florida who took the championship aboard his Beta. Paul Thistle (Aaron’s dad) won the Advanced Sportsman class also on a Beta. Harry Heileman from South Carolina took the Sportsman title also aboard a Beta. Art Wilson from Georgia, again on a Beta, took the Intermediate title. Finally it was Mark Moon from Tennessee riding a Gas Gas to claim the Novice title. The champs not only got a nice trophy but also a number plate for their bike and a very nice riding jacket which has their title and the STRA logo embossed on the front. See our 2013 schedule below and please visit our website for more information on the 2013 season. And as always, see you on the loop.
